Terms of Service — TransFlow

TransFlow is a browser extension that translates text, images and pages. These terms cover your use of the extension and of the optional TransFlow Cloud relay, including paid plans sold through our merchant of record, Polar.

The short version

  • The extension is free and open source (GPL-3.0). Paid plans only raise the limits of the optional cloud relay — every local feature stays free.
  • Paid plans renew automatically (monthly or yearly) until cancelled. Cancel any time from the Polar customer portal or the link in your order email; you keep access until the end of the paid period.
  • License keys are issued by Polar at purchase. Each key can be activated on up to 5 devices.
  • BYOK plans use your own provider API keys — your keys, your provider accounts, and their terms apply.
  • The service is provided as is, without warranties, like most open-source software.

The software

The TransFlow browser extension is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. You may use, study, modify and redistribute it under that license. These terms do not restrict any rights the GPL grants you; they cover the hosted TransFlow Cloud service and paid plans.

Free and paid plans

The free tier includes a daily TransFlow Cloud quota and every feature of the extension itself. Paid plans (Pro, Pro Max, BYOK Supporter and limited lifetime offers) raise quotas and unlock cloud-side features as described on the pricing page. Plan details, prices and included quotas are shown at checkout and may change for future billing periods; changes never apply retroactively to a period you already paid for.

Quotas are metered in units of up to 1,000 characters; for generative features (Explain, Rewrite, Summarize, Ask) both the request and the answer count. Each paid key also has a monthly fair-use limit on the upstream cost it may cause, set well above ordinary use. Past it — or past the plan's quota — requests are served by the free tier's engines, or refused, until the next month; the extension's local engines and your own provider keys keep working.

Payments, billing and refunds

Payments are processed by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar is the seller on your card statement, handles taxes and invoices, and applies its own Checkout Buyer Terms to each transaction.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you chose until you cancel.
  • Cancel any time from the Polar customer portal (linked in every order and renewal email) or by emailing [email protected]. Cancellation stops the next renewal; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period.
  • Refunds: if something goes wrong with a charge, email [email protected] within 14 days of the payment and we will make it right — bugged charges are refunded in full. We do not offer partial refunds on unused time for subscriptions cancelled mid-period.
  • Failed renewals: if a renewal payment fails, Polar retries it; benefits pause if the retries exhaust.
  • Lifetime plans grant access for the lifetime of the TransFlow Cloud service, not the lifetime of the universe — if we ever shut the relay down we will give reasonable notice and the extension keeps working on local engines.

License keys

Purchases of Pro, Pro Max and BYOK Supporter deliver a Polar license key by email and in your Polar customer portal.

  • One key activates on up to 5 devices.
  • Keys are personal: don't share or resell them. We may revoke keys involved in abuse, chargebacks or refunds.
  • If a key stops working, email [email protected] and we'll sort it out.

Your own API keys (BYOK)

If you configure your own provider keys (Gemini, Ollama, OpenRouter and others), your requests go to those providers under your account and their terms. Provider costs, quotas and content rules are between you and the provider; we never see or store your keys outside your browser.

Acceptable use

Don't abuse TransFlow Cloud: no reselling or pooling your quota, no attempts to bypass limits, no automated bulk scraping through the relay, and nothing unlawful. Accounts or keys that abuse the service may be suspended with notice where practicable.

Privacy

How the extension and the cloud relay handle text is described in the Privacy Policy — in short: no account, no telemetry, request content is never logged, and identical translations may be cached under a content hash for up to 24 hours.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep TransFlow Cloud reliable but don't promise uninterrupted service. The extension keeps working on local engines even if the cloud is unreachable. We may update these terms; material changes are announced on the website and in release notes, and continued use after an update means you accept the new terms.

Warranty and liability

TransFlow is open-source software provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose — to the maximum extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, lost data, or translation errors. Our total liability for paid services is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
